Sometimes I feel my well is dry.
Other times the water is high.
gulp up life in streaming mouthfuls
getting out alive? Is exceedingly doubtful.
Dive in deep, make a splash.
the highest highs, the lowest crash?
know only: this too shall pass.
Gratitude today: more and more daylight.
and gloves, hats, scarves, heaters, electricity.

This is beautiful Brook. I thought about equating our emotional state with a well. Not to be too morbid but this reminds me of one of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs, Song for Sharon.
A woman I knew just drowned herself
The well was deep and muddy
She was just shaking off futility
Or punishing somebody

shaking off futility.
pardon the pun, but that is deep.

I know. Then she goes on to say that we’re all so close to that line and so far from satisfaction. Joni was my favorite in my moody 20’s, but now I look for the sunny side of life a little more. But she’s a beautiful poet.

Nothing wrong with wallowing in the dark waters from time to time, but yeah, I tend to lighter stuff. Even when I was a moody teen/20er 😛

I love the imagery you used. Could feel like I was actually splashing in the well.

Thank you.
If I had a plan, that would probably be it 🙂
Feb 25, 2011 @ 10:32:47
Very nice. I the way you expressed this.
Feb 25, 2011 @ 13:36:38
Thanks very much!

“Dive in deep, make a splash.
the highest highs, the lowest crash?
know only: this too shall pass.”
it seems life is opposite experiences
strung together. randomly. no questions asked.
Feb 25, 2011 @ 13:40:46
lots of questions-but very few answers. 🙂
Feb 25, 2011 @ 14:17:34
I love this Brook!
Feb 25, 2011 @ 16:44:28
thanks 🙂
Feb 25, 2011 @ 16:33:25
“gulp up life in streaming mouthfuls” -just great!
Feb 25, 2011 @ 16:45:17
thanks

My well is so often dry,
and still I’m drowning some days!
Sigh.
Feb 25, 2011 @ 16:48:19
hmm…swim or float. dry drownings are really rare.
Feb 26, 2011 @ 14:00:00
hmmmm, cold and deep, lost in the swirl. letting go, letting it be what it is. Thanks for capturing this so beautifully!
Feb 26, 2011 @ 15:39:03
you’re welcome 🙂 thank you
Feb 26, 2011 @ 18:51:02
Sometimes diving in – well dry or not – is the only way to get through life.
ps: I too am praising more and more daylight. C’mon Spring!
Feb 26, 2011 @ 19:35:21
almost all january was 50’s and 60’s. we got used to it and then Madame Nature snatched it back and said, “ha ha, it’s february, you fools!” last night it was -5 or so. today was warmer than expected. It got up to almost 30.
Come on Spring, indeed!
Feb 26, 2011 @ 21:48:36
It all will eventually pass, yes, but gulping it up regardless is what matters. 🙂 I love this!
Feb 26, 2011 @ 21:50:52
Gulp, gulp. Thanks 😀
Feb 27, 2011 @ 12:11:04
This too shall pass. Yes indeed.
Need that tatooed across my forehead,
On the drowning days, at least.
Feb 27, 2011 @ 15:22:35
or perhaps on the backs of the hands in order to be more readily accessible.
Feb 28, 2011 @ 04:08:12
This too shall pass. Oh yes, all of it. sigh.
Great post.
Feb 28, 2011 @ 07:53:26
yeah, even the stuff we might not want to pass, unfortunately 😦
